Nintendo released her first handheld system in 1980 with the launch of the Game & Watch series.
The Game & Watch system was only capable of playing a single in-built game on a small LCD screen.
In 2004 Nintendo released the DS handheld system which was an advancement on the Game Boy Advance SP console. The advancement consisted of a stylus and a touch-sensitive screen which enabled players to interact with their gameplay in a way never seen before.

Difference Between DS And DSI Consoles
The DSI handheld console iterated from the DS system and was released in November 2008.
In terms of dimensions the DSI console is a little wider and longer and more slimmer (137 x 74.9 x 18.9mm)
than the DS console. In addition the DSI weighs 4 grams less and has a matte finish in contrast to the
glossy finish of the DS system.
The DSI handheld system also has a better sound quality than the DS console but a lesser 1 - 5 hours
battery life when compared (DS consoles are able to run at the lowest brightness screen settings for 15 - 19 hours).
You can also store music and pictures on the SD memory card which replaced the old DS cartridge.
In addition the DSI also features a .3 mega pixel camera, a mini music player with visualizers and audio tools.
There is also an online shop for DSI exclusive contents. One draw back with the move from the DS to the DSI handheld system is the lack of a slot for playing Game Boy Advanced titles

Difference Between DSI And DSI XL Consoles
The DSI XL handheld consoles however differs from the DSI system mainly in size. Screen resolution is the same
in both consoles with the DSI XL handheld system being bigger and more heavier. DSI game titles can also be
played on the DSI XL system but like in the DSI there is no available slot to play Game Boy Advanced titles.
Battery life is much longer in the DSI XL model and sounds better than the DSI console.
However the matte finish of the DSI has been replaced with a glossy top and a bottom matte finish
in the DSI XL handheld system.
These are the difference between the Nintendo DS handheld consoles. These advancements from the DS to DSI
and DSI XL models has helped cement the place of the DS console as the best selling handheld gaming console to date.
