Xbox 360 Or Wii

Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 are two of the most popular consoles in the market. Deciding on which of the consoles to buy can be confusing if you are new to the market. With both consoles promising you the ultimate gaming experience, how do you choose bewteen Xbox 360 or Wii? In this article I outline a number of factors that will help you choose Xbox 360 or Wii.

Controllers

When Nintendo Wii was first released in 2006, the console caused waves in the gaming world because of its sensing motion controller (a motion sensing controller allows a console to detect your movements as you play a video game).

Nintendo Wii does this using a remote and an attachable Nunchuk. However this is no longer an area of advantage for Wii as Microsoft the owners of Xbox has just of recent released their motion sensing controller called - Kinect. Kinect has gone one step better in that you don't have to hold the controller freeing you up to enjoy the gameplay.

Graphics & HDTV

When compared against each other, the Xbox 360 has a more superior graphics with faster processing speed. In addition the Nintendo Wii console is a poor candidate for use with a HDTV as it supports a very low resolution (720p).

The Xbox 360 on the other hand supports a higher resolution of 1080i. It is also possible to stream audio and video with the Xbox 360 a feature conspicuously absent in the Wii Console

Games

This is an area you need to look more closely at. What kind of gamer will you classify yourself? While it is true that boast consoles both a good selection of games titles.

The Xbox 360 games collection is more suited for hardcore gamers (people that spend long hours playing video games) while the Wii collection is more family oriented.

Backward Compatibility

The Wii console is backward compatible with games released on its prequel console GameCube. Also the Wii console allows you to download and play classic titles. Xbox 360 support for backward compatibility is partial.

Price

The Wii console is the less expensive of the two box. However in an attempt to capture some family oriented gamers, Microsoft has released some low-model spec of its console along with their main stream consoles. Generally Xbox 360 consoles are more expensive.

Summary

If you are after a high spec games console that supports audio and video streaming, HDTV among others or you class yourself to be a hardcore gamer then look no further than the Xbox 360 console. However if price is an issue you might want to opt for the Wii console.
